Nurses are possibly the most important aspect of a hospital. Even though you might have an excellent doctor, the nurse is the person that ensures that the operation is a success by providing excellent after care. However, while nursing has been a noble cause for many years, their salaries does not reflect the responsibility they hold. We regularly hear about complaints against nurses, and more so in the public sector. Because of the sheer magnitude of patients to nurses, it is inevitable that there will be complaints against nurses.
While being overworked and understaffed is not an excuse for giving poor quality care, the people who mostly suffer due to their lack of service, does not have the ability or means to lodge a formal complaint or take the matter further.
However, while it is a broad generalisation to say that only the public sector experience problems in this area. There are many nurses in the public sector that give their all for their patients and similarly, the same ratio applies to nurses in the private sector.
Nurses in the private sector have a much better working environment and their salaries are also better matched to the responsibilities they have. However, complications and complaints are still a contentious issue.
