Like so many things in life, we only know the truly value of good health when it is compromised in some way. Being ill is something no one likes, yet, it will happen to everyone at some stage during their lives. Some illnesses like colds, flu or gastroenteritis can have an adverse effect on your life, but it’s time span is short so you will be back in action soon. However, with inadequate medical treatment something as simple as the common flu can wreak havoc on your life for weeks, months or even years.
There is no hard and fast definition for what inadequate medical treatment is because it is open for interpretation for the person involved. However, in law there is a something called the reasonable doctor test. Say for example you go to your general practitioner for a cold and he simply starts prescribing medicine without enquiring about your allergies to certain substances. Should the prescribed medicine then contain a substance you are allergic to, this can be interpreted as inadequate medical treatment.
At Adele van der Walt Attorneys we will help you if you have a case against a health care provider for any type of inadequate medical treatment. We have ample experience in dealing with all kinds of medical cases and have litigated cases for a variety of clients and circumstances.
