Medical Legal Councils in South Africa are there for, amongst others, to set and maintain medical standards in all aspects of the delivery of health services to the public and to protect the public. A healthy nation is a reflection of enlightened and equitable social policies, compassionate and caring communities based on humanitarian principles and the inarguable value of human life. In order for South Africa to achieve this, public health needs to be put before private wealth.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
A statutory body, established in terms of the Health Professions Act No. 56 of 1974. The Council, together with the twelve Professional Boards that operate under its jurisdiction, is committed to

- The South African Nursing Council:
This Council concentrates on the setting and maintaining of nursing education and they handle complaints about professional conduct.
They assist in the promotion of the health of the population of South Africa. This is achieved, broadly speaking, by promoting the provision of pharmaceutical care and handling complaints of medical malpractice. Medical Aid Council's investigate inconsistencies with the Medical Schemes Act, monitoring the treatment of beneficiaries to ensure fair treatment.
